Optimize your Tomato Plant
FUN FACT: Optimize your tomato production by trimming your tomato plant appropriately. The best way to trim your plant is by removing the "suckers" of the plant.
The "suckers" are the small stems that begin to grow between your main stem and the already established "branches" (as pictured above). The idea behind trimming them (pinching them off with your fingers), is that if you get too many tomato "branches" on your plant, the nutrients in the soil will have to be dispersed between too many stems, and cannot focus on the fruit developing areas.
In addition to removing the suckers, you always want to remove bad growth (yellowing or browning leaves) so the nutrients will go directly to the healthy parts of your plant. Congratulations! You will now receive a more bountiful harvest from your plant!
