National Diabetes Prevention Program

The Balm In Gilead, Inc. was founded by CEO Dr. Pernessa Seele in 1989. It is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) whose mission is to prevent diseases and to improve the health status of individuals who are disproportionately affected by high rates of health disparities.

The program became recognized by the CDC which started the pathway to the Southeast Diabetes Faith Initiative Lifestyle Change Program and the National Diabetes Prevention Program (created in 2010).
