In addition to this, each year smoking claims the lives of 7 million people worldwide. Cigarettes and other tobacco products are the only known legal drugs that kill it's users. According to the American Heart Association, ceasing cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death.
Those who acquire a disease from cigarette smoking do not only include those who smoke a pack a day, but those who only smoke one or two cigarettes a day. A study, done by a research group from the University College London in the United Kingdom, found that a large portion of coronary heart disease risk comes just from only a couple cigarettes a day.
